Farmer’s Market

Posted by tinako on December 12, 2010

Butternut Squash, Broccoli Rabe, Leeks, Kale, and Turnips

I went to our town’s fall farmer’s market and got all this great stuff, all organic.  That enormous bunch of kale was $3.  This fall market is indoors at our rec center gym and was packed today.  We have already had a foot of snow here, so it is really special that we can have a fresh market here through December – it ends next week.  Our grocery store is good, too, but I like to support the local farmers directly.

Dinner was takeout pizza to my parents’, this time from a place that couldn’t even comprehend what I was asking about cheese in the tomato sauce.  “What?  No, it’s just tomatoes and seasoning.  Cheese??”  It was very good, but unfortunately the location is not usually convenient, so next week we will be back to cheesy pizza and bringing along a frozen meal.
