Chocolate-Dipped Pretzels

Chocolate-Dipped Pretzel Rods

After Chipotle takeout, we made Chocolate-Dipped Pretzels for dessert and for the Superbowl tomorrow. They were fun and easy, if a bit messy. I followed these instructions, which I’ll briefly recap in case that link goes away.

I melted 12 oz. chocolate chips and what ended up being 2 T of shortening by microwaving in a large glass bowl, stirring every 30 seconds, careful not to overcook.  This was enough for one bag of pretzel rods.  You decide how much shortening to adjust for how your chocolate chips are behaving and how thin you want the chocolate; start with 1 T shortening.

Then the kids took over.  It was kind of awkward to dip the pretzel rods because of course they wouldn’t fit into the chocolate, so we used a spatula and sort of ran the pretzels through what was on that.  There are probably better ways to do that but we couldn’t think of one.

Right after we got the chocolate on, we rolled them in toppings spread in dinner plates.  We used shredded coconut, sprinkles, and mini chocolate chips.

Set them on wax paper-lined cookie sheets and refrigerate 30 min.
