911 Adobo Sauce

Posted by tinako on November 7, 2012

Black Beans in Chipotle Adobo Sauce, Mexican Millet, Roasted Brussels Sprouts, and Turban Squash

My parents came for dinner and we had Black Beans in Chipotle Adobo Sauce, Mexican Millet, Roasted Brussels Sprouts, and Turban Squash.  The adobo sauce was super hot but good mixed into the beans, millet, and even the sprouts.  The beans were pretty plain, just cooked a while with onion, bay leaf, salt, and pepper – you could use any recipe such as Southwestern Black Beans.

Beer was Trader Jose’s “Dark.”  The beer lives up to its name: dark but not very interesting.  It is so-so but what really annoyed me was to notice as soon as I got home that the bottle seemed lighter, and find that in place of the industry standard 12 oz bottles, theirs are 11.2.  I suppose it’s possible they feel they’re doing the public a service by reducing our calories and alcohol consumption without our noticing (mindless drinking?), but it seems much more likely that they hope no one will notice they’re getting less for their money.

Overall I like our new Trader Joe, but this beer thing is part of a wider problem that they don’t post any unit prices.  I use those a lot.

Dessert was Cocoa Cake with Jasmine Green Tea.
