I’m sorry to disappoint anyone hoping to make kettle corn in their microwave or mixer or something.  I make this in my Whirley Pop, and the recipe came with it.

  • 1/2 c popping corn
  • 1/4 c sugar
  • 1/4 c oil

They say to preheat an electric stove on medium.  I have a gas stove and they say to never set this recipe hotter than low (no preheating necessary), but that doesn’t work for me, so I set my gas stove on medium for this.

So anyway, put all the ingredients in the popper and pop as usual.  Quickly empty pan onto cookie sheet.  Immediately fill popper with hot soapy water.  Close lid and let soak, and cleanup is a snap.

When popcorn is cool, break into pieces and pick out unpopped kernels.

Variations: They tell how to add food coloring, dotting small amounts around so it doesn’t make one blob of color.  They also have flavoring suggestions, to try 1/2 t of coconut, rum, vanilla, etc., and increase the amount in subsequent batches if desired.

I one time tried adding dried coconut along with the extract.  It soaked up all the oil and then I think everything burned.  So…  no.
