Beany Burgers

These make pretty good burgers.  Recipe from Lean, Luscious, and Meatless, by Hinman and Snyder.

  • 1 lb. can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 2 c cooked brown rice
  • 2 T ketchup
  • 1/2 t garlic powder
  • 1 t oregano
  • 1/8 t thyme
  • 1/4 t ground sage
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 c finely chopped onions (optional)

In a large bowl, combine and mash, with a potato masher, everything but onions.

Add onions and mix well.

Form mix into 8 burgers.

Preheat a lightly oiled nonstick skillet.  Place burgers on skillet and cook until browned on both sides.

Serve hot on a bun with lettuce, tomato, relish, ketchup, etc.
