Play Dough

Play Dough

This was from my son’s kindergarten teacher.

Mix in a 3-qt saucepan:

  • 1-1/2 c flour
  • 3/4 cup salt
  • 2 t cream of tartar (find in the spice aisle)

Microwave 2 c water until hot.  Add:

  • food coloring
  • 1/4 t extract (optional, for smell)

Pour the water mix into the pot with:

  • 2 T vegetable oil

Cook over med-low heat, stirring constantly, until ball forms.

You may need to add another 1/4 c flour or so.  Be sure to add all flour while the dough is cooking.  Once the dough cools, if it’s too wet, more flour won’t help reduce stickiness.

This batch I used red food coloring and peppermint extract.  One time in fall I made orange color with pumpkin pie spices for smell – I formed it into a pie shell and took it in to my daughter’s kindergarten class – it was a big hit.
